Telescopic coil tongs for fully automatic transport with spindle drive, separately movable tong arms and sensor technology. The coil tongs are firmly attached to the crane via two rope pulleys. The tongs are fixed in the uppermost lifting position.

• The coil tongs pick up the coils at the transfer station in front of the automatic area.
• To do this, the arms are moved separately so that coils that have not been placed in the exact position can also be picked up.
• The claws are folded in during approach to the coil.
• Light barriers are used to check whether the tongs arms are positioned centrally in relation to the coil eye.
• The separately movable tongs arms move towards the coil.
• To protect the coil, the closing movement is stopped by advance shut-off strips.
• Once the motor has been stopped by the shut-off strips in both gripper arms, the claws are folded down for picking up.
• While the coil is being lifted, the automatic centre compensation brings the coil into the centre of the gripper housing
