Tongs for long loads
In some branches of industry, heavy loads with special dimensions need to be transported. These may include sheet metal, steel girders, rails or the like. Tongs for long loads from WIMO® turn this challenge into child’s play.
Tongs for long loads are a special form of transport equipment. As the name suggests, they are designed to pick up and transport long loads and place them into storage. Solutions from WIMO® for this task are available in different designs. For example, mechanical tongs for long loads may be the right choice depending on the application. Or maybe tongs for long loads with gripper units that are motorised so the length can be adjusted. The relevant design varies depending on the goods being transported and can be specified in each individual case. Like our other lifting technology solutions, the tongs for long loads from WIMO® transport loads safely while protecting the materials.

Tong for long loads with motorised longitudinally adjustable gripping units

Long grapple with motorised longitudinal adjustment and rotating support claws.
- Motorised longitudinal adjustment of gripping units for precise adjustment to the load
- Electromechanically rotatable support brackets for space-saving storage
- Two-point crane suspension prevents tilting with an off-centre load centre of gravity
Tong for long loads with motorised tong arm drive system

Long grapple with electromechanical grapple arm drive and swivelling support claws.
- Electromechanically driven gripper arms for flexible handling
- Telescopic guide enables adjustable length for gentle transport
- Space-saving storage and tight lorry loading thanks to rotating support claws
WIMO long goods tongs are designed for the safe and gentle transport of long goods such as profile packages or sandwich elements. Depending on the model, the tongs have rigidly positioned or telescopic gripping units with swiveling gripping prongs that securely pick up the load from below.
The tong arms can be moved electromechanically and are equipped with self-locking trapezoidal threaded spindles, slip clutches, and gear brake motors. Depending on the model, the gripper arm is adjusted either transversely to the package width or longitudinally to the crossbeam – always symmetrically to the center of the tongs.
The designs enable the precise and economical handling of several bundles or packages at the same time – even with sensitive surfaces and large lengths. Typical areas of application are in internal logistics, steel construction, or prefabricated component production.
